Clothing Thoughts
Why not make clothing that “loves you just the way you are?”
For many years I was a “layer” dresser but actually never, EVER acquired that cool, hip layered look that became so popular! Even when I was a young girl I was self-conscious about my body. Maybe that’s why I started this business…to answer those nagging questions I kept hearing in my head; “Too fat? Too thin? Wrong shape? Overdressed? Under-dressed? Will I be concealed, comfortable, confident?”
Erma Bombeck explained the saga of the woman best when she said “I’ve been on a constant diet for the last two decades. By all accounts I should be hanging from a charm bracelet.” And that just about sums it up.
“Enough” I said. The EUREKA MOMENT had finally struck! Why not make clothing that “loves me just the way I am?”
In the 35 years I’ve been designing and creating soft, easy clothing for women, I’ve met very few women who are completely comfortable in their bodies. My basic idea was that if you’re comfortable in what you’re wearing, you’ll be comfortable with who you are. I dropped a layer or two, loosened my look, searched for delicious fabrics that felt good on my body and finally realized that other than the soft, easy look of well made clothing all I needed to feel terrific was a fabulous pair of shoes and a great attitude.
After all these years it strikes me that we’re not making and selling clothing at all…we’re selling our sense of humor, our independent Vermont lifestyle and our comfortable attitude about dressing… clothing is just how we’ve packaged it!
